Biden's 'Ministry of Truth' Is Watching

On Monday, April 25, 2022 Elon Musk tweeted, “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” when he purchased the social media platform Twitter for $44 billion. On April 26, Musk tweeted, “By ‘free speech’, I simply mean that which matches the law. I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law. If people want less free speech, they will ask the government to pass laws to that effect. Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.” On April 27, two days after Musk’s purchase of Twitter, the Biden administration announced the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board.

The Disinformation Governance Board, under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), aims to combat what they refer to as false information regarding issues such as the illegal migrants crossing the Southern border, Russian-state election interference, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and COVID-19 vaccines, though DHS has declined to clarify what the actual scope of the Disinformation Governance Board will be. Anyone who is awake and not woke understands exactly what the purpose of the Disinformation Governance Board is: to censor dissenting voices and edit the truth so that it fits their political agenda. The timely creation of the board is easily attributable to the fact that under Elon Musk’s commitment to free speech, whoever is pulling the strings in Washington can no longer count on the so-called fact-checkers at Twitter to push their message.

Contributing to the sense of unreality about the Disinformation Governance Board are the community musical theater stylings of the newly appointed (and aptly monikered) Disinformation Chief, Nina Jankowicz, who attempts to use her so-called craft to promote the evils of false information. The self-proclaimed Mary Poppins of Disinformation recently took to TikTok and belted out a cringeworthy, altered version of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” about information laundering. Further making Jankowicz appear unhinged is her song about how “bathrooms are great places for peep shows” in which she warbled that she’d “like to solve the mystery between [Harry Potter’s] legs.” No, we are not making that up, and yes, we are just as uncomfortable as you are; sorry about that.

On April 28, one day after the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board, Elon Musk tweeted an illustration that depicts how over the past 12 years the Left has moved so far to the left that in standing still he now finds himself on the Right. Musk’s experience is not unique to billionaire entrepreneurs. This is what the Left is afraid of. There are many every day Americans who were formerly Democrats, but now feel alienated by that party. They feel that while their values remained unchanged, the party in support of those values is now the Right. Republicans are the party that defends women and protects children. Many gays and lesbians who were once solidly liberals have now found compatriots in Republicans, who concur that there are inherent biological differences between men and women, and agree with Merriam-Webster: a woman is an adult female person. Because the Left has no logical response to this growing group of Americans who now find themselves on the Right, their only hope is to silence them. The Left is petrified about Americans speaking freely and connecting with each other over shared beliefs, because once like-minded individuals find other, they will unite to defend their God-given, constitutionally protected rights, including freedom of speech.

The rampant “fact-checking” that has been taking place on Twitter and other social media platforms has prevented many Americans from sharing their thoughts and beliefs, and the opinions that remain unchecked are those that align with the current government narrative. Not surprisingly, 99 percent of online political contributions made by Twitter employees in 2021 went to Democrats, according to Federal Election Commission data. Now that a more level tweeting field looms on the horizon, Democrats are again resorting to the tired, woke liberal defense that if a white man does something they don’t like, he must be racist. MSNBC’s Joy Reid went as far as to suggest that Musk purchased Twitter because he missed the South African Apartheid regime. Funny how there was little public criticism of Jeff Bezos, a major contributor to Democrat candidates, when he purchased The Washington Post.

The First Amendment means that the U.S. government does not have the ability to enact rules or laws that prevent American citizens from speaking their minds. A government agency involving itself in validating or suppressing the ideas expressed by Americans on Twitter or anywhere else is in direct violation of the First Amendment. Americans are aware that fake news exists. Fake news has existed in this country since its inception. During the presidential election of 1800, both candidates paid writers to print vicious lies about their opponent. A supporter of John Adams wrote that if Thomas Jefferson were elected, “murder, robbery, rape, adultery and incest will openly be taught and practiced.” Jefferson, in turn, funded the publication of pamphlets warning that Adams, “behaved neither like a man nor a woman but instead possessed a hideous hermaphroditical character.” Throughout these brutal attacks, Adams and Jefferson honored the Bill of Rights and respected their opponent’s right to free speech, even if they didn’t respect their opponent. The government has never been and should not become the arbiter of what is permissible to say. Rather, we as individuals are the arbiters of what information we choose to believe.

Many have drawn comparisons between the Disinformation Governance Board and the Ministry of Truth from George Orwell’s dystopian novel, 1984. In the book, the Ministry of Truth serves as the ministry of government propaganda, concerning itself with lies it puts forth. In his novel, Orwell wrote that, “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” What the Ministry of Truth did in 1984, the Disinformation Governance Board is attempting to do now. If they can curate the information to which you have access, they can then shape what you believe, and eventually gain control over what you think. They want to do to you what the Party did to Winston, the protagonist, in 1984. Make you love Big Brother.
